The only common casino game whose published return exceeds 100 percent: 100.76 percent with perfect strategy on the original full-pay schedule, shorthanded 9/5 for its straight-flush and four-of-a-kind pays. Every condition has to hold -- that exact paytable, five coins in, error-free play. Short-pay versions look identical and return well under 100. Variance is severe, and the figure only means anything over tens of thousands of hands.

10/7 Double Bonus Poker

100.17 percent with perfect strategy on the 10/7 schedule -- ten for a full house, seven for a flush. Reported as still findable in downtown Las Vegas rooms such as El Cortez, the Plaza, the Four Queens and the D, which is the practical point: these games exist in particular buildings, not on the Strip and rarely online. Double Bonus strategy is materially harder than Jacks or Better, and JoB habits hand the margin straight back.

Craps free odds bet

The only bet on a casino floor paid at true odds -- zero house edge, no commission, no vig. It cannot be bet on its own; it rides behind a pass or come bet, so the number that matters is the blended one. A pass line alone is 1.41 percent; adding odds pulls the combination down to roughly 0.85 percent at 1x, 0.61 at 2x, 0.37 at the common 3-4-5x and 0.18 at 10x. Larger odds do not reduce risk, they reduce the edge per dollar wagered.

Wizard of Odds publishes 0.28 percent for liberal Vegas rules under basic strategy, and every deviation from it is priced: dealer hits soft 17 costs 0.22, no double after split costs 0.14, doubling limited to 9-11 costs 0.09. Then the one that matters -- 6:5 blackjack costs 1.39 percent, which takes a single-deck game that would otherwise sit at 0.05 percent all the way to 1.44. The rules are printed on the felt. 9/6 Jacks or Better video poker

The realistic best case for a machine you can actually find: 99.54 percent return, a 0.46 percent edge, on the 9/6 schedule -- nine for a full house, six for a flush. Strategy is learnable in an evening, unlike Deuces Wild. The pay table is the whole game: 8/5 and 7/5 versions sit on identical cabinets under the same name and return meaningfully less, and online lobbies skew heavily short-pay. Check the full house and flush lines first.

EZ Baccarat / no-commission banker

Removing the 5 percent commission does not make baccarat cheaper by accident -- it is paid for with a rule. In EZ Baccarat a banker win on a three-card total of seven pushes instead of paying, which happens about 2.25 percent of the time and lands the banker bet near 1.02 percent, marginally below the commissioned 1.06. Worth taking. The Dragon 7 side bet that pays 40 to 1 on that same hand runs 7.61 percent and undoes the saving many times over.

Baccarat banker bet (5 percent commission)

1.06 percent on an eight-deck shoe with the standard 5 percent commission on winning banker hands, and it asks nothing of you -- the drawing rules are fixed and there is no decision to make badly. Player is 1.24 percent and is the correct second choice. Tie is 14.36 percent and is not a bet so much as a donation. Everything expensive at a baccarat table is either a side bet or a trend board telling you a story about random numbers.

French roulette even-money bets with la partage

The best number available on any roulette wheel. On a single-zero wheel, la partage returns half your stake when zero hits on an even-money bet, halving the 2.70 percent edge to 1.35. It applies only to the even-money propositions -- red/black, odd/even, high/low -- so the same wheel is simultaneously 1.35 percent on the outside and 2.70 on a straight-up number. En prison reaches a comparable result through different mechanics.

Craps don't pass / don't come

1.36 percent per bet made, slightly better than the pass line, because the 12 is barred rather than paid -- you win where the shooter loses. Per bet resolved it works out to about 1.40. Laying odds behind it carries the same zero edge as taking odds on the pass side. The reason almost nobody bets it is social rather than mathematical: the whole table is on the pass line and you are not. The dice have no opinion about it.

Craps pass line / come

1.41 percent per bet resolved, and the best-known low-edge bet in a casino. It is the entry ticket rather than the destination -- its real job is to qualify you for free odds, which is where the number collapses toward a third of a percent. Come bets carry the identical 1.41 and let you have several points working at once. Everything in the middle of the layout is worse, and the proposition bets there are dramatically worse.

Pai Gow Poker

1.46 percent, and the more useful figure is the pace: hands are slow and a high proportion push, so the hourly loss on a given bankroll is among the lowest on any floor. Where the house permits players to bank, taking the bank against the other players lowers the effective edge further, at the cost of having to cover their bets. The house way is published -- ask for it. Fortune and similar side bets are far more expensive than the base game.

Craps place 6 and place 8

The bet where the quoted number depends entirely on how you count. Per bet resolved it is 1.52 percent; per roll, because the bet stays up across rolls, it works out to 0.46. Both figures are correct and they answer different questions -- the per-roll one is what actually governs how much you lose per hour. Place 5 and 9 are 4.00 percent resolved and place 4 and 10 are 6.67, so only the 6 and 8 belong in a low-edge discussion at all.

European roulette (single zero), any bet

2.70 percent flat on every bet on the wheel, inside or outside, because the single zero is the only asymmetry -- 37 pockets paying at 35 to 1. It is worse than everything above it on this list, and it is here because it is the version you should insist on. The gap between finding a single-zero wheel and defaulting to a double-zero one is larger than most of the differences higher up this ranking.

American roulette (double zero) -- listed for contrast

Here for contrast rather than recommendation: 5.26 percent on every bet, close to double the single-zero wheel, for a game that looks and plays identically. The five-number bet on 0-00-1-2-3 is worse still at 7.89 percent, the worst standard bet on the layout. Two wheels can sit side by side on the same floor with the same minimum and the same dealer, and one costs roughly twice as much per hour. Count the zeros before you buy in.
