Edinburgh's Christmas, Princes Street Gardens

Edinburgh has the best setting in the UK: the Traditional Christmas Market fills East Princes Street Gardens under the castle, with a funfair in West Princes Street Gardens and an ice rink on George Street. The official dates are Nov 14, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027, so it rolls straight into Hogmanay. Market entry is free; rides and skating are ticketed. December weekends are very busy.

Manchester Christmas Markets

The biggest spread on the list: more than 210 stalls across 10 city-centre sites, opening Nov 6 and running to Dec 22, with Albert Square and Cathedral Gardens staying open to Jan 3. New for 2026 is a Lincoln Square site, and the Ferris wheel returns to Albert Square. Details come from the 2026 announcement quoting Manchester City Council. It is a city crawl rather than one pretty square.

Less a market than a winter theme park with stalls, Winter Wonderland runs Nov 19, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027, closed only on Christmas Day. Durham Christmas Festival

Durham is a short one, Friday Dec 4 to Sunday Dec 6, 2026, but the setting is hard to beat: a craft and producers marquee on Palace Green between the cathedral and the castle, with over 120 stalls per Durham University's listing, plus street food and music. Hours are 9:00-18:00 Friday and Saturday and to 16:30 Sunday. Booking is handled through the university's event page.
